It's time to put some of these together in a book. It should release in November, because it would be the kind of book people would buy as a Christmas present. It's probably too late now for Christmas 2027, but you could try for it.
Three years ago I would have said this is folly. Now enough people tell me its a possibility. Appreciate the vote of confidence. It's definitely something I need to start considering.
I am inspired! We have soooo many problems with our house today from the roof on down and I was frankly giving up hope. I am going to go wake my husband and tell him, This is the good stuff! Maybe structured a bit differently.
Some days the good stuff is so good, it practically bops one on the head and some days one has to make a decision that the mediocre stuff is going to be labelled good stuff for today.
I’ve got my gripes about the profession (as does everyone in every profession) but couldn’t agree more. If the good stuff is good enough, you put up with the crap regardless.
Mary, I imagine you’ve come to the same conclusions in medicine. There’s got to be something inherently awesome in saving lives… even when they resist your advice.
I am struck when I read your ‘stack how similar the ways we think about our work is. I can tolerate a lot of the crappy system-generated garbage because the human interaction in the exam room is so nourishing to me.
I actually don’t do a lot of acute savings of life because I work in a clinic. I do more helpling subly bend the curve of a person’s life so that they are making better choices about eating, taking their meds, exercising, or sometimes even just reframing their lives in healthier ways, very similar to what you do. Every once in a while, I’ll make a call that will have immediate repercussions for a person’s health, but usually it’s subtle.
lol, I’ve been watching too much of The Pit. But I also had a laugh reading that comment. As you pointed out, it sounds like you do exactly what I do. Try to subtly bend people in the right direction.
And yes, despite the bullshit - it’s incredibly nourishing when you stick the landing.
Glad this is one that hit you in the right kinda of feels. I recently wrote a darker one, and critical one before that… and I felt like I needed to write one reminding myself why I do what I do. You spend time writing a piece, and suddenly your head space starts feeling like the piece your writing.
Dude. . .your writing.
MERCY me.
SOOOOOOOO good.
=) Really appreciate it.

If you do put out a book, I hope you give a copy to the old man.
Your storytelling prowess is inspiring... and it's why your newsletter is definitely a "must read" for me now.
Helluva vote of confidence. Thank you!

I treat it like a skill - finding the good stuff - and I have found the more I practice it the better I get at it. Applies to life for sure.
I'm sure some yogi out there would call it "gratitude practice,' but... bleh. Let's just say I like my marketing better. Find the good stuff!

Hell yeah. And we’ll do it again tomorrow.
You really know how to hit me in the feels. I loved being a teacher and you keep reminding me of that.

Made me feel good to write this.
Boy, do you have some stories. This IS the good stuff!
